DOHA: The Qatar General Authority for Specifications and Standardization (QS) has completed the changes to energy efficiency labels for energy-saving air conditioners.
QS is expected to officially announce the details of the new labelling in the near future which will be distributed to traders and importers to be used on energy-saving ACs.
The new changes are minor and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), brand and model details, cooling capacity and annual energy consumption KW/h per year will remain the same.
The new additions include a table explaining the number of accredited stars for energy-saving ACs — starting from 3 and going up to 8. ACs with eight stars are considered the best in the world and can save up to 51 percent energy.
General Authority for Specifications said that energy efficiency experts classified energy-saving ACs like any other electric appliance such as heaters and washing machines, which do not consume much power.
The General Authority for Specifications has send notices to other departments like Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ministry of Economy and Commerce and Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) about the new labels for energy-saving ACs .The Peninsula
