Riyadh: Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani participated in the joint meeting of GCC interior, foreign and defence ministers, which was held in Riyadh yesterday.
The meeting was attended by members of the official delegations.
At the outset of the meeting, verses of the Holy Quran were recited.
Saudi Crown Prince Deputy, Premier and Minister of Interior Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, welcomed the attendees and conveyed to them greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his aspirations to enhance the GCC joint march and security, military and political integration among the GCC states.
In a statement carried by Saudi Press Agency, the Crown Prince expressed the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States' pride regarding bright achievements during the GCC march in spite of political, security, military and economic challenges. The Crown Prince stressed that the GCC states with their wise leaderships and awareness and cooperation of citizens as well as vigilance of the security services, strength of the military defences and effectiveness of the political methodology maintain GCC security and stability.
The Saudi Crown Prince stressed that the greatest challenge facing any country is to address its national unity against any internal or foreign influences or threats, wishing all success in the meeting.
In his speech, GCC Secretary General H E Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani said that the meeting is an implementation of the decision of the 16th consultative meeting of the Supreme Council held in Jeddah in 2016. The decision said the meeting shall be held periodically to discuss security, political and defence issues in the region.
Al Zayani praised the preparations as well as studies and working papers prepared by the GCC states and the GCC General Secretariat and the outcomes of the joint meeting attended by undersecretaries of interior and foreign ministries and the chiefs of staff of the armed forces. He also hailed the constructive discussions in these meetings, which culminated in a series of important recommendations presented to this meeting to enhance the progress of GCC cooperation and integration.
