Equestrian photography contest invites entries

DOHA: Qatar Museums (QM) yesterday launched an equestrian photo competition to uncover new photographic talent in the country.
Amateur and professional photographers can submit images that capture powerful, eye- catching imagery of the striking Arabian horses in action as they race at events organised by Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (QREC) between November 2014 and February 2015.
The contest until February 26 in line with QM’ commitment to nurture emerging talent, celebrates the role horses have played in Arabic art and their contribution to Qatar’s heritage and culture.
The overall winner will be announced at QREC’s 40th anniversary celebrations in February with the winner awarded with the trip of a lifetime to Racing and Equestrian event in France, The Qatar Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe in 2015. The best entries will also be unveiled during the anniversary event.
Hamad Al Eida, Director, Communication, QM, said, “The competition is a new and exciting initiative to give aspiring and professional photographers the opportunity to showcase talent and capture powerful imagery of beautiful Arabian horses in action.
“We are putting the spotlight on the importance of horses in Qatari culture, which have always been an important part of the heritage and a source of national pride. We are excited to see wonderful submissions of these magnificent animals as seen through the eyes of the local community.”
Participants need to register via the website www.qm.org.qa.
Once registered, entrants will gain access to a press box at one of the QREC events to capture close up shots.
Events to attend will be based on the QREC calendar, with equestrian activities twice a week. Each entrant can submit up to three shots. The Peninsula
