Dr. Al Kawari to address Berlin symposium today

Paris: H E Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Cultural Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the Unesco director-general’s post, yesterday met Ivory Coast’s Minister of Culture and Francophonie Maurice Bandaman.
Dr.  Al Kawari presented his election programme and vision for the development of the UN organisation. The meeting also dealt with the importance of Africa and the need to support programmes relevant to Unesco, particularly in the areas of education and heritage.
 Bandaman praised Qatar’s role in supporting Unesco in these critical areas. Ivory Coast is on Unesco’s 58-member Executive Board and entitled to vote in Unesco elections.
Dr. Al Kawari will take part today in an international symposium on ‘Cultural Diplomacy in the Arab World’ in Berlin, Germany, and will present a paper entitled ‘A Diplomatic Culture in A New International Approach’ in the opening session of the symposium organised by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy. He has been invited by the institute within the framework of his election campaign.  During his visit to Germany, Dr. Al Kawari will also meet high-level personalities from many countries taking part in the symposium and German officials.
