Doha/Seoul: Qatar Petroleum (QP) along with some of its joint ventures and subsidiaries is taking part in the Gastech 2014 Conference and Exhibition, which is currently being held until tomorrow at the Korea International Exhibition Centre (KINTEX) in Seoul.
HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada, the Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of QP, was among the VIPs who were present at the event’s inauguration ceremony, and he visited the QP pavilion during the opening of the exhibition.
The QP pavilion, which measures a total of 464 square metres in area, showcases the corporation’s extensive activities in the oil and gas industry as well as the operations of its Industrial Cities Directorate. Also included in the QP pavilion are the exhibition booths of Qatargas Operating Company Ltd, RasGas Company Ltd, Qatar Gas Transport Company Ltd. (Nakilat), Oryx GTL Ltd. and Qatar Fuel Additives Company Ltd. (QAFAC).
The strong presence of Qatari companies in the Gastech 2014 exhibition highlights Qatar’s prominent role in the global gas industry, as the country has the world’s third largest gas reserves after Russia and Iran. In addition, it underscores Qatar’s renowned stature as the world’s largest producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and as the global capital of the gas-to-liquids (GTL) industry.
Now on its 27th edition, the Gastech Conference & Exhibition brings together all major players in the global gas industry, attracting the participation of many top government officials, the senior management of companies and hundreds of industry professionals from all over the world. Hosted this year by Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), Gastech 2014 is also supported by RasGas as the “Strategic Sponsor” and Qatargas as the “Gold Sponsor.”
In addition to the participation of Qatari companies in the exhibition, several members of the Qatari delegation are also directly involved in the Gastech 2014 conference.
Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, CEO of RasGas and Vice-Chairman of QP, was a speaker in the plenary session on “Developing the Next Wave of Gas Supply from Asia-Pacific Markets.” Today, two senior officials from Qatargas will be speaking in both the technical and commercial streams of the conference, while a RasGas official will also deliver a presentation about the Barzan Gas Project tomorrow.
First held in London in 1972, the Gastech Conference and Exhibition was last hosted in Doha in 2002.
