Fifty Pakistan Education Centre students took part in the volunteer activity for beach cleaning at Wakra organised with the support from the Ministry of Environment. The students equipped with the necessary tools spent several hours cleaning up Al Wakra beach. The large amount of trash collected motivated the volunteers to reflect on local habits in terms of environmental care and waste management. This voluntary activity had the goal of raising awareness about local social issues, promoting active citizenship and community engagement, and developing a sense of ownership in the volunteers so that they help improve the society and serve its needs.
The students were given four different types of colour-coded rubbish bags and gloves, to sort the waste collected according to their category. That plastic should not be disposed irresponsibly; they should be reduced, reused, recycled and finally recovered for their energy value.”The Peninsula
