Indian Cultural Centre along Millennium Kids, Birla Public School and Rajagiri Public School, will be conducting Folk Dance Fest today at 07:30pm at the Ashoka Hall at the ICC Premises.
Millennium Kids, an Associate Organisation of Indian Cultural Centre will be presenting Kerala folk song along with Kolattam and a semiclassical fusion dance ‘Aigiri Nandini’. Kolattam is a rural art usually performed during village festivals and a combination of rhythmic movements, songs and music with sticks providing the main rhythm. The semiclassical fusion dance ‘Aigiri Nandini shares the strength and power of women.
Students of Rajagiri Public school will be performing theme based folk dance on ‘Onam’ - the festival of prosperity, joy and happiness. Onam is a festival with origins in the state of Kerala. It falls in the Malayalam calendar month of Chingam. It is a harvest festival and is observed with numerous festivities.
Onam celebrations include Vallam Kali, Pulikali, Pookkalam, Onathappan, Onam Kali, Tug of War, Thumbi Thullal, Kummattikali, Onathallu, Onavillu, Kazhchakkula, Onapottan, Atthachamayam and other celebrations. Birla Public School will be presenting national and couple of modern songs with fusion along with folk dances in different forms including Arabic folk dance.
