DOHA: Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has provided fresh humanitarian aid of QR1m to more than 30,000 internally displaced people fighting for survival due to unrest in Iraq.

The aid includes foodstuffs and clean drinking water. The project was financed by people from Qatar through donations.

More than 4,750 displaced families sheltering at the refugee camps of Amiriyat Al Falluja, Dibika and Kelo-18 in Al Ramadi benefited from the project over several months.

The initiative aims to reduce the suffering of refugee families. Some 76,000 litres of drinking water was distributed on a daily basis.
In addition, 5,000 baskets of basic foodstuffs were also distributed.

A basket was enough for a family comprising six to eight members for two months. Water coolers were also given to the beneficiaries.

The baskets include food items like rice, pasta, milk powder, beans, tomato sauce, and edible oil, among others.

A water tank with the capacity of 16,000 litres was mobilised to distribute drinking water to the beneficiary families at refugee camps.
Ice cubes were also provided to protect children and senior citizens from the scorching heat that caused outbreak of diseases due to lack of proper food and clean drinking water.

The initiative was launched under the ongoing project of food security being implemented by RAF worldwide in collaboration with international organization under UN programmes.

The project also aimed at improving the health conditions of displaced people suffering from stomach problems and diarrhoea.
RAF sent a delegation to the camps of displaced people in Irbil, capital of Kurdistan-Iraq, to get first hand information about their situation and need of food and medicines.

The delegation visited refugee camps in Al Ramadi, Al Falluja and Al Musal and provided financial support to thousands of displaced people.
The delegation also met with 300 orphan children and provided aid to displaced people in Kurdistan in collaboration with local partners.
RAF has been waging campaign to collect donations for the past three years to provide humanitarian aid to displaced people in Iraq. They have been provided medical supplies and foods Educational projects were also launched for the school drop outs living at refugee camps.

RAF urged people in Qatar, both citizens and expatriates, to extend their helping hand to their brothers in Iraq in their tough time.
