Customs officials with employees who were honoured for seizing the narcotics.
Doha: The General Authority of Customs (GAC) yesterday announced the seizure of 29kg of marijuana, in five different cases, from a number of Asian passengers coming to Doha and from a parcel sent from an Asian country. After honouring the employees who had seized the narcotics, Chairman of the General Authority of Customs Ahmed bin Ali Al Mohannadi said that GAC had made several achievements through the seizure of different contrabands including narcotics.
He stressed that all customs officers were closely watching traffickers and had the competence and ability to protect the society from the entry of prohibited harmful materials.
The four seizures came when customs inspectors became suspicious of bags belonging to Asian passengers and then transferred them for more inspection. Marijuana measuring 6kg, 9kg, 7kg, and 3.4kg were recovered from their bags wrapped in carbon paper, which smugglers thought would deceive scanning devices.
The fifth case was detected by a postal employee at the air cargo during the inspection of a parcel from an Asian country that included some school books and 4kg of marijuana.
