DOHA: Five faculty members at Qatar University (QU) were each awarded the Qatar University Scientists 2015 Scopus Award in recognition of their outstanding research in the categories of social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, medical and health sciences, and engineering and technology.

QU Research Office was also recognized for its outstanding contribution to the Qatar research community, reports QNA.

Congratulating the awardees, QU Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Dr Mazen Hasna said: “These awards demonstrate the level of excellence in research that underlines the teaching-learning environment at QU, and the growing energy of our faculty research impact and output that are a key component of ranking measures. Recognition of the Research Office also highlights the university’s commitment to academic and research quality and excellence and its position as a leading institution for research in the region.”

Coordinated between QU Research Office and Elsevier Publishing, the Scopus Award ceremony was held for the first time in the Gulf region. The Award aims to honor researchers who are building their careers in academic research and help them gain recognition of their work.

The projects were evaluated by Elsevier which provided quantitative analyses using data from Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, while subject experts from QU focused on qualitative analyses. Other criteria taken into account were: the nature and uniqueness of research, outcomes, international collaboration, M-index, and cited/uncited publications.
