London: An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Tuesday South Sandwich Islands, which is one of the British Overseas Territories in the South Atlantic Ocean.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that the tremor occurred at a depth of 73 km.
There have been no reports of material damage or causalities as a result of the earthquake.
The South Sandwich Islands are an archipelago that forms part of the "South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands," which is an overseas territory of the UK.
