Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is heading Qatar’s delegation to take part, along with leaders of Arab countries, in the 27th Session of Arab League Council at the summit level, which begins in Mauritanian capital Nouakchott under the theme ‘Summit of Hope’ today.
Arab foreign ministers held on Saturday a preparatory meeting ahead of the summit.
Qatar’s delegation to the meeting is headed by its Permanent Representative to Arab League Ambassador Saif bin Muqaddam Al Buainain.
Mauritania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih said that the summit would be distinguished with the activation of pan-Arab cooperation and dealing with the nation’s crises.
Minister Izid Bih, whose country chairs the current summit, called on Arab states to draw up strategies “that address social, cultural and economic dimensions for man’s security”.
He also called for boosting cooperation with regional and international organisations and states, including African countries.
He said the Palestinian cause remains the top priority of the Arab League and affirmed that the Arab organisation relentlessly seeks to reach a just and viable peace in the region, based on ending Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab territories. Bih hoped that the summit would launch a new phase for inter-Arab action based on solidarity, renouncing differences and realising national conciliations.
The ministers discussed the summit agenda, including the Palestinian question, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, the Iran-occupied UAE islands, Turkish forces’ breach of Iraqi territories, combating terrorism, overhauling the Arab League, and joint social and economic action.
