DOHA: Following true spirit of Ramadan, many Qatari citizens are doing charity on their own. The noble souls make it a point to visit Industrial Area every day to spread smiles on the faces of limited income workers.
The workers line up every day during Ramadan at Al Atiyyah mosque, Industrial Area to collect some fruits and dairy products free.
“A citizen, aged around 45 years, comes at Al Attiyyah Market, Street No. 22 everyday in the evening at around 5pm in a big GMC car carrying big refrigerators in his car full of fruits and milk. He has been distributing edible items to workers since the beginning of Ramadan,” said a worker living a labour camp near the market.
“People who want to take their shares from the largesse begin to line up before he reaches the spot,” he added. The Qatari citizen, who likes to hide his identity, distributes banana, milk, laban and among other edible items to workers. Some of the benefactors come with their children to instill them with lesson of generosity.
“Two teenage boys were accompanying the generous father. The boys help father in disbursing edibles. A boy was taking out the materials from the refrigerators, opening the packet and passing it to his brother sitting at back of the car. The boy at rear handed over a banana, a packet of milk and laban to the workers standing in long queue,” said a worker who comes everyday to benefit from the charity.
Another citizen distributes food baskets in large quantities to the workers in front of the Mosque of Al Attiyya Market.
“When I came out from the mosque after Asr prayers by 4pm, I was surprised to see a van parked at the main entrance of the mosque distributing foodstuffs to workers,” said another worker.
“I rushed to the van and lined up in the queue. I received a big basket full of food items enough for a person’s need for a month. The basket included a packet of rice weighing five kilogramme, a two kg packet of sugar, a bottle of 1.5 litres edible oil, one kilogramme lentils and some sweets,” he added. Another old citizen distributes meat in large quantities in a labour camp at street No. 5, said a worker. Many citizens are doing charity by funding the Iftar tents which are offering meals to thousands of workers on daily basis in the Industrial Area. Parcel foods are also being distributed at places by 5pm.
It is not new for the generous citizens. They do not miss opportunities for humanitarian and charity workers. They were often spotted distributing cold water, beverages and foods at open worksites especially during summer.
