DOHA: The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) President Adham Sharara said was impressed with the number of participants that competed at the Qatar Open 2013 Table Tennis Championships that concluded yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference on the final day of the $212,000 event, Sharara said: “The level of entries was very high. I did not expect so many Chinese, Japanese and Korean players to be here. That is because usually they train in preperation for the world championship events. In Kuwait, the entry was quite strong, and here in Qatar it was quite stronger. It was quite impressive.”
With the 2014 edition set to commemorate the 18th edition of the World Tour competition, he hopes some of the top players will make an appearance again.
“I’ve been told that next year’s edition will be very special, so I hope the top players will be here again,” the 59-year-old Canadian said.
