Doha: Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat) says planned investments in Qatar’s chemical and petrochemical industry will further increase the country’s export portfolio to 23 million tonnes per year by 2020, from 10 million tonnes as of 2013.
A release from Muntajat says as demand for chemicals and petrochemicals continue to rise, the Gulf petrochemicals industry continues to be the largest producer and exporter in the world, accounting for 11 percent of the $600bn global chemical and petrochemical market. Chief Executive Officer of Muntajat, Abdulrahman Ali Al Abdulla, said: “Following the positive global outlook on market demand and consumption patterns, Muntajat plans to expand its portfolio of products that will better serve the needs of worldwide customers. Our developing global network of offices and advanced supply chain programme will ensure that we offer world-class logistical support as well as high-quality products.”
Muntajat QJSC, and six of Qatar’s leading chemical and petrochemical producing entities joined forces to promote Qatar’s chemical and petrochemical industry at the Gulf region’s largest industry event, the Gulf Petrochemicals & Chemicals Association (GPCA) Annual Forum, now in its eighth edition, which was held from November 19 to 21 in Dubai.
Recognised as the flagship event of the petrochemical and chemical industry in the Middle East, the GPCA Annual Forum brought industry leaders from more than 39 countries.
This year’s forum main theme and discussions revolved around the role of innovation and industry value chains in future growth strategies. Muntajat recently announced that it has chosen The Hague in The Netherlands as the location for its international marketing company, Muntajat BV, which plans to establish up to 36 offices in key markets worldwide and will have approximately 150 employees.
Since starting its operations in February, Muntajat has migrated the marketing, sales and distribution activities of 90 percent of chemicals, polymers and fertilisers produced in Qatar, and is on its way to complete the full migration soon. QNA
