Paris: Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches has joined Panathinaikos on loan, French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) reported in a statement without disclosing further details on the terms or duration of the deal.
The statement recalled that Sanches first broke into the Benfica senior team in October 2015, quickly establishing himself as a regular and helping the Lisbon side win the Primeira Liga and League Cup double in the 2015-16 season.
He subsequently moved to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2016, and later spent the 2017-18 season on loan with Swansea City in the English Premier League before transferring to Lille in August 2019.
Sanches signed for Paris Saint-Germain in 2022, then spent the following season on loan at AS Roma, where he made 12 appearances. He later returned to Benfica on loan, featuring in 21 matches.
Greek Panathinaikos announced in a statement the arrival of the Portuguese international, describing him as an invaluable addition to their squad for the current campaign.
Panathinaikos are targeting the Greek Super League title this season, after finishing runners-up to rivals Olympiacos Piraeus, who lifted the trophy in 2024.
