Doha: The Ugandan walking football team claimed the trophy after beating Ghana in a closely contested match, winning 2-1. Third place went to the Sri Lankan team, who faced a difficult opponent in the Doha team. Nigeria finished fifth in the tournament.
The prize-giving ceremony was led by Walking Football Federation Qatar (WFFQ) President Farhan Al Sheikh Al Sayed, Ambassador of Ghana to Qatar H E Mohamed Nurudeen Ismaila, Ambassador of El Salvador to Qatar H E Milton Alcides Magana, Ambassador of Haiti to Qatar H E Francois Guilaume ll, Ambassador of Guyana to Qatar H E Safraaz Ahmed Shadood, Deputy Head of Mission North Macedonia Kristina Lebarik, Charge d’affaires at the Nigerian embassy Rabiu Sulaiman and Lulu Regional Operations Manager, Simon Alexander.
During the closing ceremony, the El Salvador envoy awarded a designer football to WFFQ President for his contribution towards the sport. The tournament was sponsored by Lulu.
Walking Football is the fastest-growing sports concept in the world. Its fast walk, no tackle, and safe concept is attracting a lot of communities of all ages between 25 to 60 years. WFFQ is planning a league in 2023 which is set to commence soon.
