QP Environment Fair 2014 opens

DOHA: H E Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada, the Minister of Energy and Industry and the Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum (QP) opened the eighth edition of the “QP Environment Fair 2014” at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) yesterday. 
During the four-day event, held under the theme ‘Use of Water in the Oil and Gas Industry’, eight QP directorates and departments as well as 31 companies and organisations are showcasing their environmental initiatives .
Talking to media, Dr Al Sada praised the achievements of the fair since it was launched in 2004, and pointed to the highlights in this year’s edition. 
“The theme of this event reflects the importance of water in the oil and gas industry and also the efforts of the sector’s companies to protect all components of the environment, including air, earth, water and its biological diversity,” Dr Al Sada said.
The participating QP directorates and departments are the Public Relations and Communications, HSE Regulations & Enforcement (DG), Corporate Health, Safety and Environment (SQ), Dukhan Operations, Gas Operations, Mesaieed Industrial City, Ras Laffan Industrial City, Offshore Operations (Halul), and QP Refinery.
A large number of QP subsidiaries and joint ventures are also taking part in the event. These include Dolphin Energy Ltd, Oryx GTL, Qatalum, Qatar Chemical Company Ltd (Q-Chem), Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), Qatar Fuel (Woqod), Qatar Fuel Additives Company Ltd. (QAFAC), Qatar Petrochemical Company Ltd. (QAPCO), Qatargas Operating Company(Qatar Gas), RasGas Company Ltd, Seef Ltd, Qatar Steel, and Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC).
In addition, the fair also features the exhibition stands of many industry stakeholders, such as ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil Qatar Inc, Maersk Oil Qatar AS, Occidental Petroleum (OXY), Qatar Petroleum Development Company Ltd. (QPD), Qatar Shell, and TOTAL E&P Qatar.
Other exhibitors include government entities such as the Ministry of Environment and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), members of the Qatar Foundation, namely the Qatar Energy and Environment Research Institute (QEERI), the Environmental Studies Centre of Qatar University, the Friends of the Environment Center (FEC), and Children’s Literature Center.
More than one thousand students from 31 local schools in Qatar will also take part through various competitions and educational and cultural presentations.
