Captivating folkloric performances by dance troupes from Lebanon and Germany enthralled audiences at Katara Amphitheatre on Saturday and last night at the ongoing Cultural Diversity Festival presented by Katara in cooperation with the Unesco Office in Doha.
Lebanese ‘Barja Dance Group’ staged a joyous Dabkeh performance taking art and culture enthusiasts on a journey centuries back through the age-old dance steps along with a medley of traditional tunes. Since the ensemble was founded in 1980, they have gained numerous awards for their exceptional performances.
Following the thrilling Dabkeh performance, German folkloric troupe, ‘Shlitzerlander Trachten-und Volkstanzkreis’ lively performed a rich repertoire of dance suites, quadrille dances, and traditional dances in two lines accompanied with German musicians playing live music, using the accordion, double-bass, and guitar. Established in 1927, the troupe seeks to preserve the culture and traditions of their hometown, Schlitz.
The next performance will be tomorrow and on Wednesday featuring ensembles from Togo.
