Doha: The Minister of Energy and Industry, H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, met the visiting US Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman.
They reviewed issues of common interest and cooperation in the energy field.
The meeting was attended by US Ambassador Susan L Ziadeh, the delegation accompanying Poneman, as well as a number of senior officials from Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Petroleum International, a press release issued by Qatar Petroleum said.
Poneman also met the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, Minister of Environment H E Ahmed Amer Al Humaidi and Ahmad Mohamed Al Sayed, CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority, a press release issued by the US embassy said.
“Qatar is an important partner in the global effort to build a sustainable energy future. We discussed how our two countries can work together to develop clean energy technologies and to improve the security of cyber networks and critical energy infrastructure,” Poneman said. “This visit highlights the shared US-Qatari commitment to forging a sustainable future,” said Ziadeh.
President Barack Obama has declared October 2013 National Energy Action Month and has called for international action to meet global energy challenges. “A clean energy economy has the potential to fuel economic growth for decades to come,” he said in a Presidential Proclamation. “But we must invest in the technologies of the future and fund breakthrough research to make these technologies better and cheaper.”
He also visited the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), where he met with Hamad Mohammed Al Kuwari, Managing Director of QSTP, and Dr Thomas Zacharia, Qatar Foundation Vice-President for Research and Development, to explore opportunities for Qatari-American collaboration in clean energy technologies.
