WASHINGTON: The US authorities urged their citizens in Ukraine today to leave immediately, as they fear that Russia will launch new strikes soon, targeting civilian facilities in the country.
The US State Department said in a statement published by the US Embassy in Ukraine, that it has information that Russia is intensifying its efforts to launch strikes against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and government facilities in the coming days, calling on American citizens to leave Ukraine now using privately available ground transportation options, when safe.
The statement pointed out that the security situation throughout Ukraine is extremely volatile, and the situation may deteriorate without warning.
In addition, US media linked this call to the contents of the daily speech of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, indicating that Russia may launch strong attacks on his country in conjunction with its celebration of Independence Day, which falls on Wednesday.
