Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced its initiative to provide Qataris with subsidised sheep at a reasonable price for the upcoming Eid Al Adha. For the fifth successive year, the initiative seeks to create a balance in prices, which contributes to lower prices in the market.
A statement by MEC said that the subsidized sheep will be sold to Qataris starting from next Saturday until the third day of Eid (September 3). It added that the prices for the sheep are QR 1,100 for the sheep, saying that it has contracted with Widam Food Company to provide 12500 Arabian Sheep (Syrian sheep of 45kg or more) that will be sold to Qataris.
It designated selling points at the Public Slaughterhouse at the Central Market and its other slaughterhouses in Al Shamal and Umm Salal Central Market, the statement said.
Each Qatari of 20 years or above is entitled to one sheep, the MEC added.
The Ministry said it will conduct inspection campaigns to monitor the prices offered through this initiative and the compliance with its terms.
