Doha: The Qatar e-Government Portal (Hukoomi) has won the Access Certified Award from Qatar Assistive Technology Centre (Mada) for applying Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 AA to ensure that websites have accessible features for people with disabilities.
The award is often given to institutions that have websites that meet international standards and which can be easily accessed and used by people with disabilities.
The award was received by Tareq Al Emadi, Manager, Government Portal Department, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day on May 19. “Hukoomi places considerable attention to ensure people with disabilities in Qatar benefit from advantages and the information and communications technology.
“Mada ensures that websites meet all requirements stated in the e-Accessibility Policy launched by the Ministry of Transport and Communications in 2011 and global digital accessibility requirements,” he added.
Maha Al Mansouri, CEO, Mada, said: “We aim to increase the number of websites accessible by people with disabilities in Qatar. Mada has a special team to regularly review global e-accessibility requirements and standards to ensure government websites in Qatar are designed in a way that make them flexible and accessible by the people with disabilities and the elderly.” The Peninsula
