The Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with MES Indian School, organised a traffic awareness programme for higher secondary students recently. The head of the Community Police Section of North Capital Department, First Lieutenant Khalifa Mubarak Al Kaabi, officer of the Community Police Section of Rayyan Security Department, First Lt Fahad Al Musalam, MES Principal Sashidharan and a number of teachers and students of the school attended the programme.
First Lieutenant Khalifa Mubarak Al Kaabi pointed out that the students were approaching the minimum legal age for obtaining a driving licence and what they would learn about traffic in the programme would help avoid mistakes and traffic violations.
He urged the students to benefit from awareness programmes organised by the Ministry of Interior and not hesitate to ask questions related to security and safety of the community through the website of the Ministry of Interior or by approaching the nearest community police office.
First Lieutenant Fahad Al Musalam said: “The community policing section of Rayyan Security is ready to cooperate with the school in organising any similar events.”
Principal Sashidharan thanked the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Public Relations Department, and the community police sections of Capital Security and Rayyan Security for organising and attending the event.
The event included a lecture on the topic of common traffic mistakes. It included information about traffic rules and regulations in Qatar.
The lecture focused on the importance of fastening seat belts, non-adherence to which leads to death or serious injury in case of an accident. Using a mobile phone while driving for making or receiving calls or sending text messages was also pointed out as a dangerous act that could divert the driver’s attention.
Overtaking from the right, negotiating roundabouts, pedestrian safety and safe crossing of roads were also discussed.
At the end of the programme, questions were put to the students based on the presentation. Lieutenant Khalifa Al Kaabi distributed prizes to the winners. The Peninsula
