Doha: The General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality has announced significant achievements in public hygiene and environmental services during July 2025, as part of a nationwide effort to improve urban cleanliness and public health.

In coordination with several other entities, the Ministry launched a large-scale cleanup campaign in various municipalities across the country. The field operations led to the removal of thousands of truckloads of various types of waste, as part of the Ministry’s active commitment to enhancing the urban landscape and improving the quality of life in residential neighbourhoods.

As part of this campaign, more than 41,959 tonnes of random waste were cleared from municipal areas. In addition, 3,357 damaged tires and 2,469 dead animals were removed, along with 196 abandoned cars and 61 neglected signboards. The Department also carried out 5,881 public services and issued 803 hygiene law violations to ensure regulatory compliance.

To support the country’s waste management infrastructure, the Ministry provided 309 residual waste containers and 1,085 recycling containers, while also washing 75,997 waste bins to maintain public sanitation standards.

Meanwhile, the Beaches and Islands Section played a crucial role in preserving Qatar’s coastal environment. The team removed 553.71 tonnes of general waste from beaches, 4.34 tonnes of recyclables, 163.26 tonnes of seaweed, 230.70 tonnes of wood waste, and 9.90 tonnes of coal and sand. Additionally, 6.64 tonnes of iron, 95 fishing cages, and 62 fishing nets were retrieved from marine areas, helping protect local ecosystems and ensure cleaner public beach spaces.

The department’s public awareness team also extended its outreach by distributing recycling containers to 973 homes in various neighbourhoods. To strengthen environmental education, it conducted 12 awareness workshops and lectures in partnership with external organisations, encouraging residents to take active roles in sustainability efforts.

Align with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its pillar of environmental development, the Ministry of Municipality has urged contractors, developers, and residents to strictly follow proper waste disposal regulations. It emphasized that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility and called on everyone to comply with waste management laws to help keep Qatar clean, preserve natural resources, and support environmental sustainability.

The General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality works round-the-clock, deploying specialised teams and cleaning vehicles to maintain public cleanliness.
