Doha: Qatar General Organisation for Standards and Metrology (QS) has completed designs of optional ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ cards for new energy-saving air conditioners prior to a formal inauguration on October 14 October coinciding with World Day of Standardisation.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary, Standards and Metrology, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, said Qatar seeks to introduce the new system as a mandatory measure in its energy-efficiency project in the future, similar to what other developed countries such as South Korea and Japan have adopted.
QS will grant certificate of appreciation to companies and manufacturers of seven- and eight-star ACs, indicating the number of stars they have achieved, in a step to further encourage them to import the highly energy-efficient models, Dr Al Kuwari added.
