Switzerland: Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Swiss Confederation H E Mohamed bin Jaham Al Kuwari affirmed that Qatari diplomacy played a pivotal role in supporting the efforts that led to the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, through its support for the initiatives and efforts led by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, along with the efforts of a number of partner countries.
He noted that this achievement represents a historic step towards consolidating security and stability in the region.
He said that the State of Qatar harnessed its relations and diplomatic efforts to support various initiatives aimed at bringing the parties closer together, which contributed to the signing of the MoU. He stressed that the agreement prevented further tension, which would have had direct repercussions on the security of the region and the global economy.
The Ambassador added that the MoU represents the beginning of a new phase of dialogue, as it opens the door to discussing various outstanding issues and files, which contributes to strengthening security and stability, and supports building broader partnerships between the countries of the region, as well as strengthening political and strategic relations with the international community.
He explained that the signing ceremony of the agreement and the technical meetings hosted by the Burgenstock Resort in Switzerland represent a pivotal point in this process, as they come after a period of tensions that almost had major repercussions on the political, economic and infrastructure levels. He indicated that the MoU laid the foundation for the launch of negotiations that address a number of tracks and issues with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement that enhances security and stability in the region.
He pointed out that the next stage requires continuous diplomatic work to address a number of sensitive files and issues. He stressed that Qatar will continue to facilitate dialogue and meetings, and work with all parties to ensure the implementation of the MoU, leading to a final agreement that achieves security and stability in the region.
He referred to the meeting that brought together Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation H E Ignazio Cassis, which witnessed praise for the role played by the State of Qatar in the field of mediation and promoting peaceful solutions to conflicts.
He added that cooperation between the State of Qatar and Switzerland in the field of mediation is witnessing continuous development, in light of the letter of intent signed between the two countries in 2025. He noted that the two sides are working to support efforts to resolve conflicts in a number of regions of the world, reflecting the growing international confidence in Qatari diplomacy.
