MOI launches search operation for 18 missing at Ras Laffan Industrial City incident

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior has announced the launch of a search operation for 18 missing individuals in the operational incident that led to an explosion and fire at Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday, June 21, 2026. 

The total number of injured in the incident has reached 54, the ministry added. 

The Ministry of Interior shared the update in an early morning social media post at 4am on Monday, June 22, 2026. 

The search operation is being conducted in coordination with the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group affiliated with the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), in cooperation with the Civil Defense teams.

Earlier, the Ministry of Interior stated that preliminary findings indicate the incident was caused by a technical malfunction during operations at the facility. It also reassured the public that there had been no hazardous leak or release of substances posing a threat to public safety.
