Doha: A historic milestone in the oil and gas industry in Qatar and the region is taking place tomorrow as the first-ever ‘Qafac MTBE Workshop: Clean Fuel, Clean Air’ - is to be held from 8am to 1pm at the Sharq Village Hotel here.
Under the Patronage of H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, Chairman of Qatar Petroleum Board of Directors and Managing Director, the workshop is organised by Qatar Fuel Additives Company Ltd (Qafac) – the leading producer and exporter of Methanol and MTBE in Qatar.
An impressive line-up of speakers from across the globe are expected to lead the discussion by sharing information, knowledge, and expertise on methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) – the most widely used oxygenate as octane enhancer in gasoline.
The speakers at the workshop include Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, Vice Chairman, Qatar Petroleum Board of Directors, Chairman, Qafac, and Chief Executive Officer, RasGas Company Ltd; Nasser Jeham Al Kuwari, General Manager, Qafac; Robert P McBean, Executive Chairman, Wentworth Resources Ltd; Clarence Woo, Executive Director, Asian Clean Fuels Association (ACFA); Graeme Wallace, Director General, The European Fuel Oxygenates Association (EFOA); and Alex Leong, Vice President; Business Development- Asia; Safety, Health & Environment- Asia, AECOM.

Among the benefits which participants are expected to acquire from the workshop include Increased industry and stake holder’s knowledge and awareness on MTBE, enhanced relationships and networking amongst stakeholders dealing with MTBE in Qatar, the region and across the globe, and the formal establishment of a forum for discussing and sharing of knowledge and expertise on MTBE now and in the future .
