DOHA: The 8th World Chambers of Congress, the year’s biggest international gathering of chamber and business leaders, opens at Qatar National Conventional Centre here today.
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), in partnership with the Qatar Chamber, is hosting the event. To be held for the first time in the Middle East, the five-day event is expected to allow business leaders to contribute concrete proposals for strengthening the rules-based multilateral trading system and to reconfirm the global business commitment to the objectives of the WTO.
The World Chambers Congress will bring together chambers from over 100 countries and key policy makers.
The participants will have the opportunity to take part in the dialogue between business leaders and the policy makers, share perspectives on new global trade challenges and weigh in on recommendations for moving multilateral trade negotiations out of an 12-year deadlock “Doha Round”.
Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammad Al Thani said the 8th edition of the World Chambers Congress hopes to revive the “Doha Round”, which was launched in 2001, and to make progress in the global trade talks in the coming four days.
Under the “theme, “Opportunities for all”, the Doha Congress includes plenary sessions on topics such as unemployment, women in business, youth entrepreneurship, SMEs, global economy as well as the daily functioning of the chambers.
Apart from the plenary sessions and workshops, the event also offers opportunity for one-on-one business meetings and networking between delegates, exhibitors and business leaders.
