DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has launched a campaign to raise awareness about volunteer services among school students.
The three-month drive is being launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Regulation Authority for Charitable Works, Woqod and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa).
The Fina Khair (we are kind) campaign will begin in the second semester of the current academic year. Some 2,000 students form 20 preparatory and secondary schools will participate.
“Lectures, courses and workshops will be held to educate students about the importance of volunteer services,” said Fahad Juman Al Qahtani, Head, Community Youth Centre, RAF, and Campaign Supervisor.
The students will be given practical and theoretical lessons. Some 200 students will be selected for volunteer work. They will achieve 2,000 hours of volunteer work and gain 50 types of skills in the field.
Based on performance, top three schools in each category (preparatory and secondary) will get prizes. RAF has earmarked QR120,000 to give prizes to the winning schools.
Details of the campaign were given by RAF officials at the launch in Ezdan Tower in Al Dafna.
