Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Qatar, HE Joon-ho Lee along with the Korean community as they celebrate the Lunar New Year.
DOHA: The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Qatar held on Friday Lunar New Year celebration, along with the Korean community.
It was the first largest cultural event with the Korean community in Qatar since the start of COVID-19 pandemic. A large number of Korean residents participated in the event to celebrate Lunar New Year which falls on Sunday, January 20.
The participants had a chance to play traditional Korean games, such as Yut Nori and Jegichagi. They were also served with a wide variety of traditional Korean cuisines, including Tteokguk (Korean rice cake soup) which Koreans eat on New Year's day.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Qatar, HE Joon-ho Lee welcomed the guests and wished all the best to the Korean community on the occasion of Lunar New Year. He also extended his sincere gratitude to the community for their contributions to enhancing Korea-Qatar relations.
There are about 2,000 Koreans residing in Qatar, associated with the various fields such as construction, infrastructure, accommodation, and restaurants
Ambassador Lee also appreciated the role of Korean community in the preparations of the successful World Cup last year.
The Korean community has been deeply intertwined with the World Cup as Korean companies have contributed to various infrastructure projects for the biggest sporting event such as highway, Doha metro, Al Thumama stadium and the iconic Lusail Plaza Tower.
The envoy said that the Embassy will continue to assist the Korean community in various ways and this Lunar New Year celebration event would be a great opportunity for reminding the community of the true meaning of solidarity and unity.
