Doha, Qatar: Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie affirmed that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) is working in cooperation with its partners in the public and private sectors to expand the scope of recycling projects and develop supporting legislation.

During a field visit yesterday to the Qatar Primary Materials Company’s construction waste recycling plant in Rawdat Rashid, the Minister stated that recycling contributes to reducing the environmental impact of waste and enhances environmental sustainability in the country.

He pointed out that the Rawdat Rashid experience is a successful model that can be applied to other areas, such as municipal and industrial waste. This comes within the framework of implementing the ministry’s strategy aimed at promoting the concept of the circular economy and waste management by transforming waste into economic resources that support sustainable development projects.

For his part, CEO of Qatar Primary Materials Company, Abdulaziz bin Ibrahim Al Tamimi stressed the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and developing its facilities by introducing new production lines and improving sorting and processing technologies.

He pointed out that the Rawdat Rashid landfill contains approximately 100 million tonnes of construction waste. Since taking over the site in 2020, the company has recycled more than 20 million tonnes and converted them into building materials that meet Qatari specifications.

He explained that these efforts are in line with the implementation plan for the strategy for managing, developing, and sustaining natural resources, overseen by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

During the field visit, the Minister was briefed on the latest technologies used in waste recycling and the achievements made in this sector.

He also reviewed the workflow at the plant, which is one of the largest construction waste treatment facilities in the country, transporting approximately 14,000 tonnes of waste daily from various regions of the country to the Rawdat Rashid landfill.

The Minister also inspected the recycled sand production lines and the mixed waste sorting unit, which contributes to the processing of difficult-to-separate materials, enhancing the efficiency of recycling operations and conserving natural resources.

At the end of the visit, the Minister held a meeting with officials from Qatar Primary Materials Company, during which they discussed ways to utilise construction waste in infrastructure projects and reviewed prospects for cooperation in the areas of environmental innovation and sustainable resource management, contributing to achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2024-2030.
