DOHA: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs will conclude its summer sports activities for ministry employees, imams, muezzins and their sons tomorrow (Saturday, August 22) with the final of the second edition of the Imams, Muezzins and Sons Football Tournament at the Aspire Academy indoor sports hall.

The closing ceremony will feature two matches to determine the tournament’s top positions. Al Dhakhira and Al Sadd will meet at 7pm in the third-place playoff, followed by the final between Al Aziziyah and Al Hilal at 8:30pm.

The winner of the final will be crowned champion of the tournament and presented with the competition trophy following a campaign that has featured strong competition and broad participation.

Al Aziziyah secured its place in the final with a commanding 9-0 victory over Al Dhakhira in the semifinals, delivering one of the tournament’s strongest performances.

In the other semifinal, Al Hilal defeated Al Sadd 4-0 to book its place in the championship match and set up a highly anticipated final against Al Aziziyah.

The semifinal results highlighted the strong technical level of the tournament and the determination of the participating teams to compete for the title.

The second edition brought together 20 teams representing imams, muezzins and their sons. Beyond the sporting competition, the tournament provided an opportunity for participants to engage in physical activity while strengthening social connections and family ties.

The ministry said the tournament was marked by good technical standards and a strong sporting spirit, reflecting the participants’ commitment to its sporting, educational and social objectives.

The success of the second edition is also expected to reinforce the tournament’s position as part of the ministry’s annual sports programs.

The football tournament formed part of a wider month-long summer sports program organized by the ministry’s Public Relations and Communication Department.

The program began on July 25, 2026, with the first edition of the “Saturday Summer Sports Gathering” for ministry employees and their sons and will conclude on August 22.

It included two main activities: “Cool Off Your Summer with Your Colleagues,” held in the morning, and “Sports Gathering Champion,” held in the evening. The program was designed to provide a variety of sporting and recreational activities while encouraging interaction among employees and their families.

The morning activities were held from 7am to 10am at Al Andalus Educational Complex, where participants had access to swimming-pool facilities in a summer-friendly environment. The event attracted significant participation from employees and their sons.

In the afternoon and evening, Omar Bin Al Khattab Secondary School for Boys hosted “Sports Gathering Champion,” where employees and their sons took part in a range of sporting activities and competitions designed to promote fair play, teamwork and physical fitness.

The ministry’s Public Relations and Communication Department has invited employees, imams, muezzins and their sons to attend Saturday’s closing ceremony and watch both matches.

Interactive competitions, prizes and gifts will also be offered to spectators, adding an element of entertainment and encouraging wider participation in the sporting celebration.

The ministry said the tournament and accompanying activities reflect its commitment to promoting quality of life and creating a more interactive and connected workplace and community.
