Doha: Qatar Charity has helped more than 500 orphans in Indonesia achieve their dreams and get the things they need, thanks to Qatar’s people and QC’s sponsors in Indonesia.
The orphans and their families received comprehensive services and were sponsored psychologically, medically, educationally and socially.
Engineer Khaled Al Yaf’i, Director, Operation Management, Executive Management, QC, said: “We thank Allah and the philanthropists in Qatar who have been supporting our projects for orphans around the world.”
Karam Zenhom, Director, QC’s Office in Indonesia, said: “After receiving the money, the office takes the orphans to stores to buy everything they need.
“Some of the needs met by sponsors included 37 big food baskets, paying for school fees, stationery for 23 students; Eid clothing for 21; bicycles for 10; computers for eight; school tables for orphans and one bedroom for each beneficiary.”
The orphans and their families expressed delight over sponsors’ response to the sewing machine, pisciculture and homes renovation projects and for meeting their needs.
Blinda Blanji, a beneficiary, said: “I saw on TV how girls had their bedrooms. It was so special and beautiful. I always asked my mother when I could have something like that. She used to tell me that our home did not have enough space for that; and that we did not have enough money. However, my sponsor made my dream come true.
Bonja, another beneficiary, said: “When they called us from QC’s office to receive a present, I told my mother that we should go immediately. I felt like the presents were going to be great. My mother told me to wait until tomorrow, but I couldn’t. We went there and were surprised at the amount and variety of food presented to us. We did not know how to carry them home!”
Seety Nour Fatima, an orphan, went shopping with her mother. The mother said it was the first time she went shopping in a big mall. “I am so happy for everything we bought! We got beautiful clothes and shoes for the girl. I got a blender for me.”
Qamar Ad-din, who studies at Aceh University, said, “A computer is essential for a university student. I tried to work during the summer break to save money to buy one; however, I could not afford it. My big brother, meaning the sponsor, sent me this present I chose myself. I cannot thank him enough!”
Rine Molyani, who bought a TV, said: “I go to school every morning and return to class after that. I never go home before night. My mother is alone all this time. Now she has a friend to give her company while I am gone.”
Rasna said: “I will never forget that day! I went shopping! I have heard about how people go shopping; I never experienced how it feels! Today, I did. We bought toys, clothes, stationery. My mother sells gas tubes, so I bought some so she could sell them and pay for our future needs.”
Yati Suryati, Yuga’s mother (one of the orphans), said, “This sponsor was so generous that he renovated my home and bought me a sewing machine. He is not just my brother. He heard our plea and helped us. The tears I am shedding may be like a form of ‘thank you’. I am very thankful for everything that happened.” The number of orphans sponsored by QC has reached more than 100,000, making it the greatest charity in the world in the area of sponsoring orphans. The beneficiaries in 34 countries receive comprehensive care and a monthly financial aid.
