Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has urged travellers using the Abu Samra Border Crossing to complete pre-registration through the Metrash app before travelling, highlighting the service as an effective way to speed up border procedures, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall travel experience, particularly during peak holiday seasons.
The electronic pre-registration service allows travellers to submit their trip details and complete the required procedures before arriving at the border crossing. By processing information in advance, the service significantly reduces the time needed to complete entry and exit formalities, improves operational efficiency, and facilitates smoother traffic flow through the crossing.
In a post on X, the MoI explained that the registration process is simple and user-friendly. Travellers can access the Travel section in the Metrash app, select the Pre-registration for Abu Samra Border Crossing service, and choose whether the trip is for entry or exit. Users then enter the expected date of arrival, select the vehicle they will be travelling in, add the accompanying driver and passengers, verify the information, and submit the application electronically.
Once travellers arrive at Abu Samra, their information has already been received by the passport authorities, allowing officers to complete verification within seconds before travellers continue their journey.
The Ministry stressed that the service is especially beneficial during holidays and busy travel periods, as it helps ease congestion at the border by reducing the time each traveller spends completing procedures. Faster processing contributes to smoother vehicle movement and shorter waiting times for all travellers.
To further simplify the process, the Metrash app includes an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) document reader, enabling passport information to be captured electronically with speed and accuracy, reducing manual data entry and minimising errors.
The Ministry advised all travellers planning to use the Abu Samra Border Crossing to complete their pre-registration well in advance of their journey to avoid delays and ensure a seamless travel experience.
