DOHA: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will patronise the opening of the 16th Doha Forum at the Sheraton Doha Hotel this evening, which is being held under the title “Stability and Prosperity for All.”
The Forum is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with local and international research and study centres. Presidents, international personalities, businessmen and academics are participating in the forum, in which 58 experts will speak on different issues like economy, energy, security and defence. A number of politicians and experts, including Qatar’s Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Khaled bin Ahmed Al Khalifa are participating in the three-day forum.
The first plenary session under the theme “International and regional status quo and the means to meet the challenges” will feature Mogens Lykketoft, president of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Argentina’s Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra and Nassir bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, among others.
The second plenary session will be under the theme “The Middle East: Towards more stability and prosperity” and will see the participation of Nikolay Mladenov, UN special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace process; Dr. Saeb Erakat, Chief Palestinian Negotiator, and Anas Al Abdah, President of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces.
The forum will also discuss economic issues in a session titled “The Global Economy: where to?” H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Danilo Turk, Candidate for Secretary General of United Nations and Former President of Slovenia, and Carolyn Maloney, member of the US Congress, are among the speakers.
The forum will also include a number of specialised sessions including “Global security: Current reality and challenge,” “Gulf Security: Dialogue instead conflict,” and “Achievement of the international agenda for sustainable development in light of the current situation of the global economy.”
The Fourth Plenary session will be on energy under the theme “The global status quo: Challenges and opportunities. Among the speakers in this session are Antonio Isa Conde, Minister of Energy and Mines in Dominican Republic, Dr Ibrahim Ibrahim, Economic Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and David Jalagania, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs in Georgia.
