Hong Kong--Hong Kong stocks rose 1.14 percent in the first few minutes of trade Tuesday, taking a lead from a Wall Street rally after heavy losses in the previous session.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index added 309.22 points to 27,404.15.
In mainland China the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.46 percent, or 19.19 points, to 4,236.27.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, added 0.80 percent, or 16.79 points, to 2,110.50.
