Qatar University's College of Sharia and Islamic Studies announced yesterday its plans to launch the Islamic world's biggest scientific encyclopaedia, entitled Occidentalism.
More than 1,000 researchers from different scientific, social, political, religious, psychological, and developmental fields will take part in preparing the encyclopaedia that will cover various subjects related to the western world. A press conference was held yesterday to announce the launch.
The goal of preparing the encyclopaedia is to provide a grand scientific resource for future generations that covers all topics related to the western world and its social and intellectual structure.
Dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Youssef Al Sudeiki, said the encyclopaedia will be unprecedented and will have a number of universities working under the umbrella of Islamic, Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Qatar University.
He added that preparing the encyclopaedia will help enhance international relations and establish a balanced relationship between the West and the Islamic world.
A workshop will be held in Isesco's capital Rabat at the end of March to discuss Occidentalism and act as the foundation for establishing the encyclopaedia.
