DOHA: Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) yesterday announced that it will be showcasing a mock-up of the upcoming Doha Metro trains as part of its public awareness campaign to educate people about its exhilarating
services.
“Soon, a mock-up of the trains which will run on the Metro will arrive in Doha and we are planning to put this on display to help educate the public about our exciting new services,” said Dr Saad Al Muhannadi, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Rail.
Qatar Rail did not give details of the proposed mockup of the train. However, a mock-up train can be a full-size or a scale model of an actual design of train coaches used for teaching, demonstration, design evaluation, promotion, and many other purposes. Mock-ups are also used to acquire feedback from users for instructional or experimental purposes.

Qatar Rail is leading one of the largest rail projects in the world to meet the demands of Qatar’s dynamic and growing population. The company is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the entire rail network and systems, and will manage Qatar’s rail network once operating. The world-class railway network will consist of Doha Metro, a rapid transit system connecting communities within Doha and its suburbs, Lusail Light Rail Transit (LLRT), a tram service for convenient travel within the new city of Lusail and the Long Distance Passenger and Freight Network, better linking Qatar to the region.

With the completion of the first phase of the Doha Metro and Lusail Light Rail, Qatar Rail expects to offer 600,000 passenger trips per day by 2021. By then, 37 metro stations are expected to be complete, with an average journey time of two minutes between adjacent stations. All the three networks (Doha Metro, Lusail Tram and the Long-Distance Rail), which will link Qatar with the GCC rail network, are expected to be complete by 2030. The integrated railway system will be affordable, reliable and convenient, changing people’s lives forever while helping to build and support the country’s growing economy.
The Doha Metro with a total length of 85km (first phase), is a mostly underground (63km) rail network which connects communities within Doha and its suburbs. With the help of 21 TBMs (tunnel boring machines) nearly 85 percent of the tunnelling work has been completed, up from 77 percent about one and a half months ago, according to Qatar Rail. The Lusail Light Rail Transit (LLRT) is a tram network providing comfortable and convenient travel within the new city of Lusail.
The Long Distance Passenger and Freight Network will be connecting cities in the north and west with Doha, and the country with the forthcoming GCC rail system. Once all the projects are completed, the three networks will act as one integrated system, allowing passengers to easily transfer between them.
