Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has implemented three projects at a cost of over QR785,000 to provide fresh humanitarian aid to rescue besieged Yemenis in Taiz city.
The aid includes 2,000 baskets of basic food items, 600 tankers carrying drinking water and 5,000 cooking gas cylinders. More than 866,000 people benefitted from the projects.
First project related to supply foods. At least 1,951 families comprising about 13,651 members received food baskets. The food baskets include basic foods like rice, flour, edible oil, pasta, tuna and dates among others.
A basket includes enough materials for a family comprising five to six members for three months. The move aimed at reducing the suffering of besieged residents of Taiz city especially poor families that are fighting for survival due to lack of foods.
Second project was about drinking water. RAF mobilised 600 tankers carrying drinking water. It was distributed to 118,611 families comprising 831,211 members across the Taiz city. There was severe shortage of drinking water due to besiege of the city. It was very difficult to provide clean water to the citizens due to dense population. And the families were unable to buy the water due to financial reason. RAF also provided 5,000 cooking gas cylinders to 2,877 families comprising 21,139 members. They could not afford to buy gas cylinders due to high prices.
These projects provided great relief to the beneficiary families. They were provided foods, drinking water and gas cylinders as they were unable to buy due to their poor financial condition. They are leading hard life due to latest development. The unrest increased poverty and unemployment rate. The income of the people shrieked. The plights of orphans and poor went up.
The humanitarian aid reached on right time. It was provide at a time when the humanitarian situation in Taiz city was deteriorating and getting more complicated day by day. The starvation was threatening to some families. Cases of malnutrition were detected horrifically especially among the children due to lack of basic services and breaking out epidemic and other infectious diseases.
RAF implemented many humanitarian projects in collaboration of its local partners in Yemen. The projects include distribution of baskets of basic foodstuffs, packets of cooked foods, blankets, home appliances, solar system, tents, medicines, medical supplies, food supplements, baby milks, drinking water. Hundreds of thousands of inhabitants of Taiz city benefitted from these projects.
