Doha: Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd (Oxy Qatar) signed a sponsorship agreement with Qatar Independent Technical School (QITS) for the modernisation of the Mechanical Department and for sponsoring the school’s annual skill competition.

Oxy’s donation will be used to purchase the latest workshop machinery, including Computer Numerical Controlled equipment. The new machinery will be used to train students on the latest technologies.

Oxy has also agreed to sponsor QITS’ annual skill competition for students and staff. The company’s sponsorship will support the event for the next three years. The competition is designed to highlight the best technical talents and create positive attitude among QITS students.

Committed to supporting education and high-quality technical training for Qatari nationals, Oxy views its contributions as an effective way to promote technical education and to encourage young Qataris in invention and innovation

Oxy Qatar’s President and General Manager, Stephen Kelly, and principal of QITS, Abdulla Shams, signed the agreement.

“Oxy Qatar is proud to work with QITS, which plays a crucial role in the development of Qatari technical expertise,” Kelly said.

“Education is one of the core areas of our Social Responsibility program. With this sponsorship agreement, we are engaging in a partnership with a key educational institution in Qatar. This partnership has the potential to enhance the skill base of the Qatari workforce, prepare workers for technical jobs in our industry, and further Qatarisation. We are delighted to assist in creating a path to future success for these talented students,” he said.

Abdulla Shams said: “Support such as this makes the school more effective in our contribution to the National Vision 2030.”
