66.39 tonnes of imported agriculture cargo destroyed

DOHA: About 125 infected shipments of agricultural produce weighing 66.39 tonnes were destroyed last month for violating the Agriculture Quarantine law.

The Agriculture Quarantine Office at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment inspected 6,182 imported shipment weighing 77597.96 tonnes and seven shipments weighing 68.700 tonnes for export. 
Agriculture quarantine is the first line of defence and a precautionary measure to protect plants and agricultural products from pests.
Meanwhile, the Health Monitoring Section at Umm Salal Municipality caught 35 violations in July and August during 370 inspection visits to food outlets and issued 109 warnings to ensure the erring outlets meet health specifications. The Technical Section also caught 50 violations, of which 12 cases were referred to Al Shamal Security. 
The Cleaning Section at Al Daayen Municipality removed 13 abandoned vehicles last month.
