DOHA: Qatar National Library (QNL) will host a five-day filmmaking workshop in September as part of the second cycle of its Keys to Palestine initiative, offering aspiring filmmakers and content creators an opportunity to develop skills in humanitarian documentary storytelling.

The workshop, titled Voices of Keys to Palestine: A Volunteer Community to Document the Story, will be led by journalist and producer Khaola Bouslam and will focus on documenting Palestinian experiences, memories and personal stories while preserving them for future generations, the Library said on its website.

The free workshop will combine practical training with hands-on production. Participants will learn the fundamentals of humanitarian documentary filmmaking, including developing ideas into documentary projects, planning, production and field filming.

The programme will also explore human-centred storytelling and ethical documentation, with emphasis on respecting the dignity of participants and maintaining the authenticity of their narratives.

By the end of the workshop, participants will produce a documentary project for evaluation and may contribute to the Keys to Palestine initiative through interviews, personal testimonies, family memories and community stories.

The initiative aims to build a network of storytellers committed to preserving Palestinian narratives and ensuring that personal experiences and memories are documented for future generations.

Bouslam is a journalist and human-interest content producer with more than 11 years of experience at Al Jazeera Network across print, radio and television.

She has produced field reports and human-interest stories from Gaza and Syria, as well as stories focusing on migration and displacement. She has also worked with A Human Story, a section dedicated to human-centred storytelling, and trains journalists and media students in addition to overseeing content development.

The workshop will be held from September 8 to 12. Sessions will run from Tuesday to Friday from 4pm to 8pm, with the final session scheduled for Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
