Doha, Qatar: Qatar and Türkiye have built a model of bilateral cooperation that has earned international recognition and should serve as an example for the region, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye H E Hakan Fidan said in an interview with Qatar TV yesterday.
Fidan praised the strength of Qatar-Türkiye relations, stressing that the partnership demonstrates the value of constructive cooperation. He said the two countries have established an exemplary model that is increasingly appreciated by various international parties and reflects a shared commitment to promoting stability and development.
The Turkish FM emphasised that the Middle East possesses enormous opportunities and potential, calling for greater regional collaboration to capitalise on these strengths. He highlighted the significant development achievements made by the Gulf states, particularly Qatar, alongside Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Oman, noting that these countries have made remarkable progress over the years in development and the provision of essential services.
He said Gulf cities have evolved into strong, world-class urban centres built according to international standards. However, he warned that the region continues to face recurring crises, with ongoing conflicts threatening economic growth, regional security, and stability.
Fidan noted that the current war is adversely affecting the region’s economy and peace, while carrying the risk of wider escalation that could trigger even greater crises. He expressed concern over attacks targeting critical infrastructure, underscoring the need to prevent further deterioration of the security situation.
Addressing regional diplomacy, the Turkish Foreign Minister stressed the importance of returning to the agreement between the United States and Iran, describing renewed dialogue as essential for reducing tensions. He recalled that a previous memorandum of understanding had been reached through mediation efforts involving Pakistan, with intensive contributions from Qatar and support from Türkiye, but said the process had since stalled.
“We must return to that agreement once again,” Fidan said, emphasising that diplomatic engagement remains the most effective path toward resolving the crisis.
He also revealed that his meetings in Doha with Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions.
Fidan commended Qatar’s diplomatic role, saying he deeply appreciates the country’s determination to employ every constructive tool and communication channel available to help resolve the current crisis. He said Qatar is making every possible effort to support peaceful solutions and regional stability through dialogue and diplomacy.
