Doha: Holiday Villa Hotel & Residence Doha grabbed the 2016 championship trophy at the recent 14th Inter-Hotel Basketball League (IHBL) at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena against newcomer Sharq Village.
The basketball meet had 14 teams from hotels across the country.
The drive to win of both teams gave a close fight but the perseverance of Holiday Villa prevailed and led to a seven-point victory, 75-68.
Headed by this year’s most valuable player and Mythical 5 member, Dennis Cabigkis, the team gained momentum at the 4th quarter with 3-point shots and shooting errors made by the opposing side.
Cabigkis said, “Coming from 2nd place last year, Holiday Villa was hungry to win the championship. We practiced hard and gave our best. I am proud and thankful for being part of this team.”
Winning the league for the third time, General Manager Joey Chen congratulated the team and its coach after receiving the trophy. “We have always been eager and delighted to participate in events that promote sportsmanship and give motivation to our staff. The management is amazed with the efforts the team has given. Winning the championship makes us more proud,” said Chen.
