DOHA: Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi yesterday honoured the head and members of a clean-up campaign in Industrial Area, which ran from May 1 to June 26.
The honourees included Safar Mubarak Al Shafi, Head of the Committee and Director of General Cleanness Project at the ministry; Jaber Hassan Al Jaber, Deputy Director, Ali Nasser Al Hajri and other members of the committee.
A total of 5,013 abandoned vehicles, 10,820 tonnes of waste, and 21,018 abandoned tyres were removed during the campaign which ran for 57 days and fined violators to the tune of QR577,243.
Several government entities took part in the campaign, spearheaded by the Temporary Committee for Public Cleaning at the ministry, and included Doha Municipality, Lekhwiya, Traffic Department, and Al Fazaa.
Four teams comprising 240 workers and employees worked in two shifts, accompanied by 80 equipment.
“To make the work easier, participants were divided into teams. One was responsible for inspecting and recording violations by companies, garages and other commercial outlets.
“Another team was responsible for removing waste dumped in violation of the rules, the third team recorded violations related to abandoned vehicles and the fourth removed abandoned vehicles,” said Al Shafi.
