Asuncion: The Republic of Paraguay announced its support to the candidacy of HE Advisor at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar's candidate for the director general post at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari.
Foreign Minister of Paraguay Eladio Loizaga, said that the support of the State of Qatar's candidate is a culmination of the strong relations between the two countries at all political, economic and cultural levels. He praised the Qatar's experience and standing in the international community, its interest in UNESCO and the nomination of a prominent figure at the international level of the Organization.
He said that Paraguay, in its belief in the organization and its objectives, officially announces its support for the candidate of the State of Qatar in recognition of the strong relations between the two countries as well as conviction of the candidate and his ability to lead the organization. He said that his country followed the discussion held at UNESCO Executive Council at the end of last month, and became more convinced of the capacities of the Qatari candidate.
For his part, HE Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari extended thanks to the Republic of Paraguay for its confidence and support, adding that he needs to cooperate and work with officials in this country to carry out his mission.
During his visit to Paraguay, the Qatari candidate also met with the country's Minister of Education and Science Enrique Riera, who welcomed and confirmed his country's support for the Qatari candidate.
At the meeting, Minister Enrique Riera spoke about the importance of education. He said that his country seeks to develop education and that it admires the level of education in the State of Qatar. He pointed out that Paraguay pays great attention to UNESCO's education programs and cooperates with the UN to implement these programs.
In turn, HE Dr. Al Kuwari stressed that he understands the conditions of education in Latin American countries, promising to cooperate with these countries in this vital area of UNESCO's interests.
In a related context, HE Dr. Al Kuwari met with the Minister of Culture of Paraguay Fernando Griffith, where culture was the focus of conversation between them.
The meetings were attended by the Charge d'Affaires in the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Paraguay Abdulrahman Ahmed Al Suwaidi. (QNA)
