
Doha: Khurram Dastgir Khan, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, is arriving on a official visit to Qatar today.
Khan, also Deputy Secretary of Information, Pakistan Muslim League, will address a community gathering at Sapphire Plaza Hotel at 7.30pm. He is coming to Doha at the invitation of Shahzad Ahmad Mughal, CEO and Partner, Dania Group.
Khan joined the ruling PML (N) in 1997. Before being elevated to the position of federal minister in 2014, he served as minister of state at the ministries of commerce; and textile industry and privatisation. At the Ministry of Commerce, he revitalised Pakistan’s trade diplomacy and spearheaded a successful campaign to obtain GSP+ trade preferences for Pakistan from the European Union. In 2014, he led negotiations to obtain reciprocal market access for Pakistan and to normalise trade with India. His diplomacy led to the start of Pakistan’s negotiations for free trade agreements with Turkey and Thailand. Under him, the Ministry of Commerce has revamped national trade defence laws, obtained approval for Pakistan’s accession to TIR Convention and concluded institutional reforms in the ministry and its departments.The Peninsula
