DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has seized 1,539 counterfeit spare parts from garages in the Industrial Area.
The products were seized during a recent inspection campaign conducted by the ministry.
Counterfeit spare parts pose great risks to consumer safety because they affect the performance of vehicles, leading to potential moral and material losses to consumers, said a statement yesterday.
The inspection campaigns were part of the ministry’s efforts to monitor markets and commercial activities in a bid to offset price manipulation and expose violations pertaining to counterfeit goods and non-conformance with standard specifications, it added.
Counterfeit spare parts involves a violation of article (7) of law number (8) of 2008. The law stipulates that suppliers of goods must clearly display on product labels a clear description of goods and their contents and refrain from posting any misleading or false statements.
Penalties for violations of law number (8) of 2008 range between administrative closures and a minimum fine of 3000 riyals and up to 1 million riyals.
The Ministry stated that it is determined to protect consumer rights and will intensify its inspection campaigns to crack down on all violations of the consumer protection law. The Ministry said it will refer violators of laws and ministerial decrees to the competent authorities, who will take appropriate action against perpetrators in order to protect the rights of consumers.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce urges all consumers to report about the violations if they come cross to the Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud department and send complaints and suggestions through Call Center: 16001 or Email: [email protected] or Twitter MEC_QATAR.The Peninsula
